Milling

Milling is one of the chip-removal manufacturing methods. Milling refers to a CNC milling machine processing a part by performing specific movements on the surface or periphery of the raw material.

When performing milling, the workpiece being machined must remain fixed and must never move. Any vibration that may occur will cause the milling spindle to contact the part, rendering it unusable.

Milling machines can be used on many different surfaces and for many different purposes in cutting and shaping operations; they can be used for gear cutting, slotting, grooving, chamfering, side machining, pocket machining, dividing angled surfaces on parts, shaping workpieces with different angles, and many other tasks.

Cutting tools with different geometries are used to obtain different surfaces and shapes through milling operations. The most commonly used milling cutting tools are shell mills, end mills, drills, indexable milling cutters, indexable drills, reamers, ball nose cutters, and taps.

Milling machines remove chips through the movements of cutting tools. They have movement capability. This movement capability allows height differences that cannot be achieved on a lathe to be carried out easily.
