What Is a Telescopic Cylinder?
Telescopic hydraulic cylinders consist of multiple tube segments that slide inside one another. They are compact when closed and provide long stroke distance when extended. This feature makes them ideal for applications requiring high lifting in limited mounting space.
Truck dump bodies, mobile cranes, and agricultural trailers are the most common application areas for telescopic cylinders.
Advantages
Thanks to their compact size, they can be mounted in tight spaces. A stroke of 3–5 metres can be achieved with a single cylinder. Staged force application enables controlled lifting of the load.
Due to their multi-stage construction, they require more complex sealing systems than standard cylinders.
Maintenance Characteristics
The gasket and wiper set of each stage must be checked independently. External stage leakage is usually the first sign. Dirt accumulates more quickly in telescopic cylinders; regular cleaning is essential.
