Hydraulic System Pressure Tests

Cylinder and system pressure testing methods, safety precautions, and interpretation of results.

Why Is Pressure Testing Necessary?

After hydraulic cylinder overhaul or during periodic inspections, pressure testing verifies that the cylinder operates safely and leak-free at nominal working pressure.

Testing is the most reliable way to assess internal and external leakage, gasket performance, and structural integrity.

Test Procedure

The cylinder is mounted on a test stand and pressure is increased gradually. Loading is carried out up to 120–130% of nominal pressure. Leakage and deformation are checked at each pressure level.

A safety valve, pressure gauge, and emergency discharge system must be ready during testing. Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.

Interpreting Results

If leak-tightness is achieved at nominal pressure, the cylinder is ready for service. Leakage even at low pressure indicates gasket or surface damage. Structural deformation indicates that the cylinder requires remanufacturing.
