Common Fault Symptoms
External leakage: Caused by gasket or wiper wear, assembly error, or piston rod scoring. Internal leakage: The cylinder slows down or cannot hold the load due to piston gasket damage.
Vibration and shaking: Caused by air entrapment, insufficient oil flow, or loose connections. Abnormal noise: May indicate cavitation, metal-to-metal contact, or valve failure.
Diagnostic Steps
The first step is visual inspection: leakage point, piston rod condition, and connection tightness are checked. A pressure test is then performed to measure whether the cylinder operates at nominal values.
Internal leakage can be detected with a movement speed test. Position drift under load is an indicator of piston gasket or cylinder body damage.
When to Seek Professional Support?
When deep scratches on the piston rod, cracks in the body, or permanent deformation are detected, the cylinder should be sent for overhaul. Temporary gasket replacement will not resolve such damage.
